Your contribution has a positive impact on the lives of students, graduates, communities and society at large. All contributions in some way make an impact on nation building. Some of the tangible

South African Donors

can benefit in a number of ways for donating to UKZN Foundation.

Tax Benefit

The UKZN Foundation is approved in terms of Section 18A of the Income Tax Act to issue certificates in respect of donations received. Tax certificates are issued to individuals or organisations to apply for a tax deduction from the South African Revenue Services (SARS). The Foundation will issue tax certificates for donations that are voluntary gifts where there is no quid pro quo, no reciprocal obligations and no personal benefit for the donor. This benefit applies to individuals and organisations.

Estate Duty

All bequests made to the UKZN Foundation in a Will are exempt from the payment of estate duty in terms of section 4(h) of the Estate Duty Act, 45 of 1955. Further information on estate tax exemption can be provided on request. This benefit applies to individuals.

BBBEE Rating

Businesses can use the donation towards BBBEE accreditation. The possible points that can be scored are as follows:

Socio-economic development                                      Maximum of 8 points

Skills development                                                       Maximum of 5 points

United Kingdom Donors

The UKZN UK Trust is a registered charity in the UK and donations to the trust from UK tax payers are recognised by HM Revenue and Customs for Gift Aid Claims. Donors are advised to complete a Gift Aid declaration when making their donation.

American Donors

Donations through CAF America

American donors cannot give directly to foreign charitable organisations and obtain a tax deduction. As a US public charity, CAF America is able to accept funds from American donors who can then recommend that CAF America use those funds to support the UKZN Foundation. Donations made through CAF America are 100% tax deductible. Donors will receive a tax receipt from CAF America for the full amount of their donation.

Donations through King Baudoiun Foundation US

US based donors can support our activities in a tax-efficient way through a contribution to the University of KwaZulu-Natal American Friends Fund at the King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS). Because KBFUS is a public charity, within the meaning of Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) of the IRC, donors may claim the maximum tax benefits allowed by US tax law for their contributions
